Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of calcitonin gene-related peptide immunoreactive cells in the trigeminal ganglion after inferior alveolar nerve transection of the rat by immunohistochemistry.
A total of 21 adult Sprague-Dawley rats weighing 200gm were use in this experiment.
Experimental animals were anesthetized by 16.5% urethan in saline and sacrified 15 and 31 days after transection of the inferior alveolar nerve.
@EN The result were as follows ;
@EN 1. The medium-size, small-size and large-size of CGRP immunoreactive neurons in the trigeminal ganglion of control group were 61.4%, 33.0% and 2.9%. The similar result showed in experimental group.
2. The oval-shape, round-shape and triangular-shape of CGRP immunoreactive neurons in the trigeminal ganglion of control group were 63.3%, 31.6% and 6.1%. The similar result showed in experimental group.
3. The frequency of the CGRP immunoreactive neurons on the trigeminal ganglion of control group were 31.7%, and 15, 31days after transection of the inferior alveolar nerve were 19.2%, 28.4%.
4. These results indicate that there is a transient decrease of CGRP in the trigeminal ganglion cell in the early stages after transection of the inferior alveolar nerve.
